We are committed to making the lights on campus a little brighter, the internet a little faster, the library a little warmer in winter, and the sports facilities a little more complete—so that students can read more and read better books on this beautiful campus, get their start in life on the right foot, broaden their horizons, fulfill their potentials, and walk steadily toward becoming valuable contributors to society.”

This heartfelt message came from Guizhou University CPC Committee Secretary Yang Wei and President Song Bao’an at the “Face to Face with University Leaders”  forum held on April 3. Themed “Forging Ideals in Youth, Awakening Duty through Mission,” the event brought university leadership together with students to exchange ideas and encourage a deeper sense of purpose and responsibility.

The forum was chaired by Zhang Jie, Deputy Secretary of CPC GZU Committee. Vice President Zhang Dalin gave a follow-up report on the progress made since the last forum, addressing concerns raised by students in previous sessions and through the “President’s Inbox.” Vice Presidents Wu Pan and Wang Jinrong also joined the discussion, along with representatives from various academic and administrative departments.

At the start of the event, attendees watched a video of President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Guizhou and studied key points from his speech. Student representatives shared their thoughts and takeaways with President Song.

In his remarks, Song encouraged students to stay true to the expectations set by President Xi. He urged them to recognize their role in shaping the future and to embrace the mission of becoming builders and inheritors of socialism. Song called on students to think creatively, pursue innovation, and align their academic interests with regional development needs. He emphasized the importance of holistic education—combining moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and practical development—and called on students to carry forward a spirit of bold exploration and confident action.

During the discussion, both undergraduate and graduate student representatives raised practical concerns about campus life and academics. University departments responded directly to their suggestions.

Yang Wei reaffirmed that serving students is an ongoing mission. She noted that the university continues to improve infrastructure and respond to student feedback. She also highlighted ongoing reforms in curriculum development, elective courses, and experiential learning, especially in the fields of emerging engineering, humanities, and agriculture.

Yang closed with a message of encouragement: “Hold fast to your beliefs and ideals—let them guide your way. Read widely and wisely. Build your skills. Broaden your vision. Cultivate your moral character. Exercise regularly to maintain both a strong body and a sharp mind. With strong convictions, knowledge, and physical strength, you will flourish at Guizhou University and one day serve the nation with distinction.”
