On April 12, a delegation from Shanghai University of Sport (SUS), led by Mao Lijuan, SUS Deputy Party Secretary and President, and Wang Jihong, SUS Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President, visited Guizhou University (GZU) for an academic exchange. Prior to the meeting, Yang Wei, GZU Party Secretary, met with the delegation.

Yang Wei extended a warm welcome to the guests and provided a brief overview of GZU’s history and development. She highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two institutions of higher learning and expressed hope that SUS would share its expertise in sports discipline development and talent cultivation. She emphasized the importance of deepening inter-university cooperation to promote shared progress.

The exchange meeting was chaired by GZU Vice President Wu Pan.Attendeesincluded leaders from College of Physical Education and relevant departments at GZU.

In his remarks, Wu Pan outlined GZU’s development, academic strengths, and key initiatives in discipline construction and talent development. He introduced the university’s integrated approach to sports development—centered on people-oriented, lifestyle-driven, value-based, technology-supported, and enjoyment-focused strategies—and noted the university’s recent achievements in sports education. He also described efforts to align sports development with Guizhou’s “Four Major Cultural Projects,” which include revolutionary heritage, Yangming philosophy (a Neo-Confucian school of thought emphasizing the unity of knowledge and action), ethnic traditions, and Tunpu culture (a regional culture in Guizhou, originating from Han military garrisons in the Ming Dynasty). Wu emphasized the university’s commitment to exploring themes such as red culture sports (sports highlighting China's revolutionary spirit), wellness and health, ethnic and folk sports, and its ambition to build a high-level research team centered on national-level projects, establishing a new hub for sports culture research in Southwest China.

SUS President Mao Lijuan presented an overview of Shanghai University of Sport, including its institutional history, campus layout, academic disciplines, scale of operations, and research accomplishments. She highlighted six major areas of scientific innovation at SUS: competitive sports science and its applications, public health and anti-doping, the sports industry and national fitness, exercise rehabilitation for chronic diseases, sports cognition and brain science, and research on the spirit of Chinese sports and traditional ethnic sports. Mao shared research achievements and best practices of SUS, and expressed hope that the visit would serve as a catalyst for deeper collaboration, fostering high-quality development at both universities.

The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific research. Before the meeting, the SUS delegation visited the Guizhou University History Museum and the College of Physical Education.
